JUNK – Chomatose

Posted on February 5, 2023February 5, 2023 By James Kerr

San Diego, California-based jazz funk project, JUNK, drop their debut EP, Chromatose. JUNK is a musical project started by musician and composer, Dirty D, which stands for a fusion of jazz and funk. Their debut EP, Chomatose, takes those jazz and funk infusions and combines them with a variety of other genres including punk, classical, and electronic. The title single, “Chromatose,” kicks off the EP with rugged bass and piercing riffs that give it a funky punk rock vibe. Track 2, “None Other Than Dirty D,” shows off a smooth element as sax and guitar solos battle it out over groovy basslines. “Chill Pill” provides a juxtaposition of atmosphere at it blends relaxing melodies with anxious bass strumming. The penultimate track, “Blow,” is a straight-up jam fest resembling a group of musicians meeting of for improvisational riffing. The projects closes with the track, “Frogadelic,” a clearly made up word, which perfectly describes this bouncy swamp hop track. JUNK’s latest EP, is a funky jazz journey and the perfect addition to any vibey playlist.

Chromatose by JUNK was released to digital streaming platforms on January 21st, 2023 and is now playing on Purple Cadillac: Soul Vibes.
